Learning Dutch: Hoe laat is het? (What time is it?)
Before you start learning the time in Dutch, we advise to learn at least the numbers from one to twelve in Dutch.
Once you can count to twaalf, learning the hours is easy: Just use the number plus the word uur (hour), twee uur (two o'clock), twaalf uur (twelve o'clock).

Half hours are a bit tricky in Dutch. The hour mentioned in the time is the next hour, not the previous one: 1:30 (half past one) is half twee (litt. half two), and not half één.

Times between a quarter to and a quarter past the hour have a similar structure as their English equivalents: tien over vier (ten past four), kwart voor zeven (quarter to seven). Times between a quarter past and a quarter to the hour often confuse learners of Dutch. These times are based on an offset to the nearest half hour: tien voor half vijf (twenty past four).
