Living in The Netherlands

Money

Money

The currency used in The Netherlands is the euro. Euros are also used in many other European countries.

How much is a euro?

There are banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200 and 500 euro, and coins of 1 and 2 euro, and of 5, 10, 20 and 50 cent. Coins of 1 and 2 cent also exist, but are rarely used in The Netherlands.

When you find a job in The Netherlands, the money you earn will probably be paid directly into your bank account.

You can get money out of your account at a branch of your bank, but usually you take the money from cash dispensers. You will find these cash dispensers at many places, like post offices, banks, supermarkets and shopping malls.

At most shops, you can pay with your bank card, so you only need to have a limited amount of cash money.
